About Paul R. Smith Cabinet Maker.

I was born in 1966 and have always lived here in Beautiful North Norfolk. I am married to Debbie and have a teenage son.

I attended Hindringham Primary School and then went to the Alderman Peel High School, Wells-next-the-Sea.  It was here that I discovered my love and talent of Woodworking, then Cabinet Making.

After leaving school I went onto further education at Norwich City College for  two years to study Furniture Design and Cabinet Making. Here I was Awarded a College Certificate and Diploma, both with distinctions. I also studied Furniture Craft, (Parts One, Two and Advanced) for City and Guilds of London Institute, I passed all, again with further distinctions.

I then joined a small Cabinet Makers in Holt where I completed a further three years training to gain my apprenticeship.  I carried on working there for a further six years progressing to Workshop Manager.   Due to the closure of the firm I set up my own small workshop in Hindringham in 1993.

Working from this workshop I built up my reputation, stock, tools and machinery, until the space became too small.

In 2003 I relocated to a bigger workshop at Bodham. As the success of the business grew in 2006 Debbie, My wife, became an equal  partner and now works in the workshop as a machinist and full time craftswoman.

The premises were fine for a while, but old and in need of major repair, The estate was tatty and run down so we had to move again.

In the summer of 2011 we moved to our brand new modern workshop at ‘North Norfolk Business Centre’ Northrepps,  just outside  Cromer. This new light and fresh workshop is ideal for making todays furniture or repairing the older antiques.

We are still there today, however the old Volvo has been replaced with a van!

In 2016 the success of our furniture restoration became very apparent.  So the decision was made to stop making kitchens and build-in furniture and allow more time to concentrate on restoration.

I am taking a break from Cabinet Making at the moment and therefore not taking any further commissions,  Thank you to all I have worked with,   Paul
